New Haven Preservation Society is a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation. When members of the community learned their old grade school at 810 Maupin was in danger of demolition, they came together to form the New Haven Preservation Society. They hosted their first fundraising event, a Candlelight House Tour in December 1988. The organization was incorporated in January 1989 and received its tax-exempt status from the IRS shortly thereafter. The organization’s primary purpose is saving historically significant buildings, documents and artifacts relating to the history of the New Haven, Missouri community and making them accessible to the public.
